The Michelin Guide
For those of you who might have missed out, the Michelin Guide does not contain instructions for rotating tires, but a 108 year old restaurant guide which started in France but is now published around the world (it is related to the rubber company). The news of the moment is that this venerable publisher has now hired a woman for the first time to head the company. And not only that, but she is German!
While some people are perplexed at the thought that a German could have taste buds, the French seem to be all for it:
"It shows a new open-mindedness of spirit," [Guy Savoy] told the Guardian. "If you look at the number of one, two and three star restaurants in Germany you can see that they have really come on with their cuisine in the past few years."as well as:
"Being an outsider can often help; being part of the furniture is sometimes not a good thing." -François Simon
So yeah! There are people out there that think that German cuisine is actually growing beyond the schnitzel and sauerkraut. But more importantly to me, there are some who also think that the best person should get the job, no matter what nationality.
