Readers Respond: When Do You Love To Eat Bread Or Why Do You Not Eat Bread?

Bread is very important to the Germans. They usually eat bread twice a day, and cook hot once. Plus, they have "Brotzeit", "Pausenbrot", "Butterbrot", and "Stullen" for in-between meals.

Many travelers returning from Germany swear by dense, sourdough bread, golden brown pretzels and crispy breakfast rolls. German bread stands out from other European bread due to the high content of whole grains such as rye, flavors like caraway and the traditional use of sourdough.

Are you a bread-person? Does your family eat bread for one or more meals? Are you more German or American in your bread habits? Give us your answer here! Share Your Passion

Mrs.

I love german bread. If I have german bread I will eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with butter and lunchmeat or jam and honey. I love the smell and texture of german bread. It is the one thing I have to have. But it is hard to get where I live. I totally dislike all american breads. I'm sure you have guessed it by now, I grew up in Germany and no other bread will do.

I eat bread with my supper, I love homemade bread fresh from the oven.

Bread

I eat bread almost every day. Sometimes I make a sandwich, other times I eat it with soup. I like bread with soup better than crackers. Bread is also good for mopping up the gravy or sauce from your meat and potatoes.

fulfilling the clichee alright

Well, the described behaviour is certainly true in our house hold. We usually eat it at least two times a day. It is quite a phenomen though - everytime I come back from a vacation I'm all hyped up because I'm looking forward to eating rye bread again - and my families and other germans experience it just the same! Although sometimes I guiltly resort to white bread I just can't stand back when I smell real bread fresh from the bakery - if it's still warm, just the better!

I love bread. Hot, baked, fresh out of the oven with a big pat of real butter. So good, I am going to go have a piece right now.

I adore bread! I eat toasted pitta bread every day. My husband has wholemeal toast for breakfast and wholemeal sandwiches every day. For me the best day of the week is Thursday when we have homemade soup and delicious still warm turish flat bread from the local turkish shop!!

Can't Live with it, or without it!

I LOVE bread but bread doesn't love me! In my mid 40's I started noticing it really bloats me up so I eat it on rare occasions, and only when it's really good artisan bread.

I love bread!

But it has to be chewy and dense, not the fluffy stuff, although Parker House Rolls are a real favorite of mine. I eat it grilled in sandwiches, as bread crumbs added to frittatas, and just plain sliced, with no butter or anything else. A bread laced with whole roasted cloves of garlic and a semolina bread with Parmesan cheese that I can find at our bakery are my favorites to eat as-is.

Eating and Baking

I love eating bread any type at any time, but I also love baking bread. It is my therapy when things get a little rough.

Better than Chocolate

I love bread. After a fresh tomato, it's my favorite food. I've been trying not to eat it for the past couple of weeks to lose some lbs. Given a choice I would eat bread over chocolate (though bread AND chocolate rocks too).

Bread Baker

I like bread, but I love bread fresh from the oven. I make an English Muffin bread that has all the little holes that you would expect. Toast it and slather on the butter, it oozes into each and every one of the little holes left by the yeast. How can you say no to fresh bread and real butter? I know I can't.

Trying to Resist

I try to resist bread because I'm perpetually dieting. I sometimes have whole-grain toast for breakfast, the nuttier and seedier the better! Other than that, I only eat it when we are at a restaurant and a nice, fragrant chunk is put down in front of me. Even a saint couldn't resist that!

Bread fads

I tend to go through phases where I have bread every day for a couple of weeks, and then I get tired of it and stop eating it. I rarely eat store-bought loaves of bread - more likely whole-grain bagels, pita bread, or tortillas. I'm in a bread-eating mood right now, so probably by next week, I'll be tired of it!

Not Big On Bread

I rarely eat bread of any kind, and then usually only wholegrain or bagel. I left off eating it a good many years ago. Now it just seems pasty and strange tasting for the most part. German bread sounds much healthier and better tasting then what passes for bread on grocery shelves.

I Love Bread!

I eat bread for at least two meals a day, sometimes three. I like whole grains, but my favorite sandwich in the world is white bread and fresh tomatoes with mayo!
