You can buy "Schoko Muesli" in a German grocery store or you can make it at home with this easy recipe. There's much less fat in this version and a delicious way to eat it with fruit.
Makes 2 servings of chocolate muesli.
This is gluten-free if certified gluten-free oats are used.
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- For the granola
- 2/3 c. rolled oats
- 2 T. chopped nuts (hazelnuts or almonds)
- 2 tsp. cocoa powder
- 2 tsp. cocoa nibs (optional, found in health food stores)
- For breakfast
- 1 banana
- 1/2 c. milk
- 2 tsp. honey or agave nectar
- 1/2 c. pitted cherries or other fresh fruit
Preparation:
To make the granola, mix the oats through the cocoa nibs (if using) in a dry, non-stick pan and roast for 10 minutes. Let cool. You can store this in a dry place. You can also double or triple the recipe, if you like.
To make breakfast, mash the banana and mix with the milk and sweetener. Divide the muesli between two bowls, add the banana milk and mix. Top with fresh fruit. Eat.
Cocoa nibs are broken pieces of raw cocoa beans found in health food stores. The taste really bad raw, but change flavor when roasted. When added to this muesli, they can give you a little buzz.
